20. Jill Hamburger Best Buy
Jill Hamburger is vice president of gaming for Best Buy and has been with the company since 1987. As such she’s been a familiar face to publishers for many years. Her efforts in 2006 have sought to leverage the synergy between the new generation of consoles and Best Buy’s other great interest right now - home theater and HDTV. Best Buy has done a fine job in demo-ing games in their best environment thus pulling consumers towards games and HDTV at the same time. She has also been working on education initiatives, spending more time on in-store brochures and arranging an ESRB education program with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Next-Gen's Top 25 People of the Year
Y'know, I'm pretty happy that so many women made it to the top 25 (#'s 25, 20, 17, 13, and 5), but why'd she have to go and "leverage the synergy"?! |

Some day even famous gamers will grow up, and on that day they will suddenly understand why they don't have more girls in gaming.

Since Gabe made the post about it on the PA news/frontpage, I'm considering emailing him about it, however it's Khoo who has much more sense about ... well, anything. I'm not really *upset* about it, per se, more disappointed. I'll think about it for a couple days and then see how I feel and maybe write to Khoo then. And yes, I do have his email address - a Google search seems to imply it's a well-kept secret, but there are honor that come with Omeganaut status. No, I'm not going to post it here now. Ask me later if you want it. |

| OmeGIRLnauts! |
[Aug. 30th, 2006|11:42 pm] |
Don't think I linked this yet, but here's a video of the girl Omeganauts, found through this blog post. I'm on the left, Lisa is in the middle, Anna on the right.
Anna was very talkative, and said the things they wanted to hear, so you'll note that they let her talk on and on while most of the cuts you see were right as I started talking. Beautiful. One of the Enforcers was also overheard making a comment about wet T-shirts - I got the impression that Anna would've appreciated the attention, but I did NOT. I mentioned it to Travis, Chief Omegatech, and he says something will be mentioned to the Enforcers in their prep/training next year. |

Today's Penny-Arcade was drawn live onstage at PAX.

Well, Gabe did the outlines before we showed up, but otherwise it was all done right thereon stage in front of us. Gabe usually sketches by hand and scans it, but as he told us he didn't have access to either a scanner or paper, so he used his Wacom tablet for all of it. As Tycho says, Gabe responded to audience requests - Div, the heart (I guess it's a running gag in the forums), the lampshade, the Bawls ball, and of course the Hot-Dog Fairy. He actually doodled one separetely from scratch before putting it on the shirt, but never saved it sadly. Gabe was bored after finishing the strip, so he went on to further modify the first panel, which Tycho says will go up later as well. |

| Intro! |
[Aug. 28th, 2006|12:38 pm] |
I was a PAX Omeganaut 2006. Unfortunately I was washed out in Diceland - the only specific mistake I made that I can put my finger on is on my second throw I went off the table. Other than that, I just kept having dice land on bad sides, pointing away from others, and in front of their weapons. :(
I'll put more stuff in here eventually, starting with backdated stuff I noted elsewhere. |

| PAX OmeGIRLnaut rant, a preface |
[Aug. 28th, 2006|12:18 pm] |
I am planning to write a futurepost on my experience as an Omegirlnaut, specifically what it was like to be a girl in this "sausagefest" (though the term gives me shudders). But every good novel requires a preface. To start you off, skim over this PAX thread. |

I'm sad. I washed out of the Omegathon already, in the very first game, Diceland. More details to come another day, I'd rather just mope about it for now. Mope mope mope. LJ LJ LJ. |
